Super public relations firm PainePR and one of their major clients, Duracell, were looking for a project to help protect America’s kids. They teamed up with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to create a book and turned to us for ideas, creativity and expertise. We contributed the writers, illustrators and publishing know-how and the result was The Great Tomato Adventure, which provides the latest safety lessons from the NCMEC. It also offers parents and kids an excellent opportunity to discuss the different situations the book’s characters encounter and the choices they make along the way. Throughout The Great Tomato Adventure, readers find important teachable moments—indicated by a small Duracell flashlight icon—and at the back is a convenient teachable moments guide with questions, conversation starters and tips on how to talk with kids about safety. Actress Jada Pinkett Smith (Scream 2, Ali, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa as well as the hit TV show Hawthorne), wife of Hollywood superstar Will Smith and mother of Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid) provided the book’s introduction. Reading is a key to success in life—it’s a fact.

To help instill a love of reading in kids, Kraft Foods and their public relations firm, Weber Shandwick, decided to produce a children’s book for their Oscar Mayer Lunchables brand in conjunction with First Book, a nonprofit literacy organization, and celebrity mom/actress Lori Loughlin (star of the CW’s current 90210 series and the long-running hit comedy series Full House). Together they turned to us to conceptualize and execute the book project. The result was Adventures in the Stars, an engrossing illustrated story about three kids who attend space camp, where they team up to complete challenging missions and earn their astronaut-in-training merit badges. Loughlin wrote a special foreword for the book, in which she shares the impact reading together as a family has had on her life: “I’ve found there is no more important activity for preparing my children to succeed than reading, and I’m delighted to team up with the Lunchables team and First Book to highlight the importance of reading together as a family.”
